Table Tennis Was the Surprise, but I Kept Flying

Stuart and I tried Thumb Wrestling, Table Tennis, flying and the jet ski. Boxing was fun too, but the quiet surprise was how much I liked Table Tennis and how easy it was to lose myself exploring Wuhu Island by plane.

Today was our first run through Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, and we sampled quite a few things instead of sticking to just one sport.

I played Thumb Wrestling with Stuart, then Boxing on my own and Boxing with Stuart. We also played Table Tennis, took a Prop Plane up over Wuhu Island, and went out on the jet ski, which the game calls Power Cruising.

The funny thing is that I had fun with all of them. Thumb Wrestling was fun. Boxing was fun. The jet ski was fun. The flying was fun. But Table Tennis surprised me with how enjoyable it was. It is the one I did not expect to stand out quite so much.

The part I didn't expect: just flying

There is something very pleasant about the Prop Plane mode. Flying over the island felt relaxing, which is not necessarily what I expect to say about a motion-controlled sports game.

Stuart and I explored and collected camera/photo markers as we went. Then I noticed another island way out on the horizon, southwest of the main one.

I wanted to know what was out there, so I pointed the plane at it and went.

Even with boost it took me about a minute to get over there. I started looking around once I arrived. I loved that the game simply let my curiosity make that little expedition happen.

The far southwestern island may be Wedge Island, the island from the original Wii Sports Resort. I haven't checked the new game's on-screen place name, so I'm keeping that as a possibility rather than saying it is confirmed.

Where I'm leaving this

We have already had a good time with five activities. I want to play more Table Tennis with Stuart, and I also want to go back to that distant island and keep discovering photo spots.

I came in for fun sports with my son. I didn't quite expect to want to spend a session quietly flying around just to see what might be out there.

Activity names checked against Nintendo's official sports overview. The account of what we played and where I flew is my own.
