Fortune's Weave

Questions I have already answered

Every one of these is a question I caught myself asking twice. The answer is mine, for this save — the reasoning is there so you can disagree with it usefully.

  • Should I keep training Sword on Cai because I got the Wooden Sword?

My answerNo. I am focusing his first-run development on Spear + Rider.

WhyThe sword is usable equipment, but it does not define the class path I am actually pursuing. Cai's early class direction points at mounted spear development, and training follows the class path rather than the inventory.

Can this change?Yes. This is a first-run direction, not a permanent account-wide commitment.

Revisit whenI intentionally replay Cai with an alternate build, or a later class gives me a real reason to branch.

  • What Boon should I buy next?

My answerIncrease EXP +10%, then Spear EXP +1 and Rider EXP +1.

WhyTen percent takes the edge off early grinding without turning the first route into a steamroll, and the two proficiency Boons accelerate a lane I have already chosen rather than a hypothetical one.

Can this change?Yes — EXP Boons are toggles. If the army ends up far above the intended level, I turn the EXP boost off rather than living with boring maps.

Revisit whenI finish Cai Part I; then Class EXP +1 becomes the priority.

  • When am I supposed to switch protagonists?

My answerWhen Cai's Part I is finished — not before.

WhyFinishing a Part I arc gives a coherent story, collects the global progression benefits, and keeps me from holding four half-understood armies in my head at the same time.

Can this change?Yes, if a route stops teaching me anything and turns into a chore.

Revisit whenCai Part I is complete.

  • Which recruit am I actually aiming for on this route?

My answerNoctula, and only if I want a sixth role right now.

WhyShe adds Brawling, which is a job Cai's early core does not already do. Alexandra is more interesting on Theodora, where her requirements are friendlier and flying is a genuinely missing role.

Can this change?Yes. Nothing here is required to finish Part I.

Revisit whenThe party feels like it is missing a job in an actual battle.

  • Is normal EXP the same thing as Class EXP?

My answerNo, and treating them the same is the mistake I made first.

WhyNormal EXP raises the character's numerical level, which can erase tactical difficulty if it runs away. Class EXP and proficiency EXP open more of the game's systems without inflating raw level, so they are the ones I accelerate without hesitation.

Can this change? The mechanic will not change; my throttle setting will.

Revisit whenThe army is winning on levels rather than on play.

  • Do I have to play Part II four times?

My answerNo. One Part II run normally, then use the skip by default.

WhyPart II is largely shared across armies. Replaying it four times would be completion anxiety rather than something I want.

Can this change?Yes — if I specifically want another army's dialogue or practice.

Revisit whenI finish one full Part II.

  • What combat do I like in this game, and what am I automating?

My answerI play the tactical grid maps myself. I automate the Clashes.

WhyFortune's Weave runs two different fights. The grid maps are the ones I came for — placement, ranges, terrain, roles. The Clashes are a smaller turn-based system I have already worn out in squad-collection games, and once I know the rotations they stop being decisions.

Can this change?Per encounter, yes. A Clash with a mechanic I have not seen gets played properly.

Revisit whenAuto Battle starts losing fights I should be winning.

  • Should I Auto Battle this dungeon fight or play it?

My answerPreemptive strike, then Skip to Conclusion. Play it only if that fails.

WhyOn Standard, against a dungeon at or below my level, the automatic result is the correct one and costs me nothing I want. A failed skip is itself the signal that the fight is worth my hands.

Can this change?Take control when the dungeon is above my level, a boss has a gimmick, LP needs managing carefully, or I care who gets the final blow.

Revisit whenPart III enemies make the automatic result unreliable.

  • How much of a dungeon should I actually clear?

My answerAll of it. The exploring is the part I enjoy.

WhyChests are fixed, breakables are semi-random, and the materials are worth having. When the Uncharted marker says there is a rear exit, clearing the place end to end is how you reach it. Automating the fights is not a reason to stop looking in the rooms.

Can this change? No. This is preference, not optimization.

Revisit whenA dungeon costs a whole evening to clear.

  • How often do I need to walk the whole city again?

My answerOnce per chapter. Not once per time of day.

WhyThe pickup orbs refresh on a new chapter. Unmarked residents repeat themselves. So the sweep is worth doing when the story state changes and is wasted otherwise.

Can this change?Yes, if a later city works on different rules.

Revisit whenI find a pickup that refreshed inside a single chapter.
