Fortune's Weave
Chapter 5: Money, Pearls & What I Actually Need to Do
I made it through the first Heroic Games qualifier and immediately hit the early-game money squeeze. This is the plan I am using so I stop turning useful quest materials into emergency cash.

My short answer
Do the cash-paying Kindness/Subquests first, keep Insect Pearls and Large Insect Pearls for their quest chain, use Vandahl Trading instead of buying everything with gold, complete Castor's useful mentorship, and check the Arena calendar for spectatable match days.
- Where I am
- I cleared the Gaia Brigade qualifier and made it into the Heroic Games. I am now in Chapter 5's longer Free Time, with Arena Training, class upgrades, the Stables/Luring systems, and Castor's Terrain Tips mentorship available.
- Next
- Use Chapter 5 Free Time deliberately: check the Arena calendar for spectatable qualifiers, finish the best cash-paying quests, complete Castor's Terrain Tips, and avoid selling materials that have better uses.

I made it through the Gaia Brigade qualifier, which means the Heroic Games are finally something I am actually participating in rather than a thing everybody keeps talking about.
And almost immediately, I ran into a much less heroic problem:
I am broke.
This is the first point where the game's economy has become tight enough that I can feel myself looking at the inventory and asking whether random materials should become emergency cash. That is exactly the moment I need the rule written down before I sell the wrong thing.
My short plan
For this Chapter 5 Free Time:
- Do the cash-paying Kindness Quests and useful Subquests.
- Do not sell Insect Pearls or Large Insect Pearls.
- Use Vandahl Trading when materials can replace a gold purchase.
- Do not buy small upgrades just because the shop has them.
- Complete Castor's Terrain Tips mentorship.
- Check the Arena calendar before advancing turns so I do not walk past a spectatable qualifier.
- Remember that Farming arrives in Chapter 6, so this cash squeeze is not the permanent shape of Cai's route.
The Large Insect Pearl is not vendor trash
This is the part I nearly got wrong.
When cash is low, a valuable-looking pearl naturally looks like the game giving me permission to sell it.
It is not.
The Fabled Insect Pearl quest chain uses these directly. One step asks for three regular Insect Pearls and pays 5,000G. The Chapter 5 follow-up, More Fabled Insect Pearls, asks for 2 Large Insect Pearls and pays 8,000G, 30 Renown, and additional items.
There is also a later step asking for eight Insect Pearls of any type.
That is a much better answer than panic-selling the large ones because I need money today.
Quests are my real early-game paycheck
Chapter 5 gives me several Kindness Quests worth 2,000G each.
That is enough money that the first response to being broke should be checking the quest log, not liquidating the inventory.
It also fits how I already play. I am going to explore these places anyway. Getting paid for the exploration is better than selling the materials I found while doing it.
The pearl quests are even more important because their payouts are unusually large for this point in the route.
Trade before I buy
Vandahl Trading is useful precisely because I am short on gold.
If a piece of equipment can be obtained by trading materials I genuinely have to spare, that can be much better than spending the small cash reserve on it.
The catch is the phrase genuinely have to spare.
Chapter 6 asks for 20 Linaria, so Linaria is not something I want to dump into random trades right now just because it happens to be sitting in the bag.
The broader rule is:
A material is only cheap if I know I do not need it for something better.
Inn auto-activities are legitimate income
Nintendo explicitly calls out Inn auto-activities as a way to gain money, experience, and resources during the turns between matches.
That makes them a real option when I have a spare Turn and want to advance without micromanaging another system.
I do not want to burn useful Free Time merely to grind gold, but this is a better pressure valve than selling quest materials.
This gets easier next chapter
Cai unlocks Farming in Chapter 6.
His route can create fields, harvest crops, and trade the result. That means I am close to a route-specific economy system designed to generate resources rather than consume them.
So the conclusion is not “I need to farm gold for hours.”
It is:
Be conservative for one chapter and use the systems that already pay me.
Castor is worth checking now
Castor's Terrain Tips mentorship is available in this Chapter 5 window and awards a Bolt Gem.
Mentoring is the kind of system I can easily forget because it sits beside all the other Free Time options. For Cai, I want newly available mentors to be part of my chapter-start scan.
This is not something I should spend money on blindly. It is something I should remember exists before I advance the calendar.
Spectating starts mattering now too
I had worried that I had already missed qualifiers I was supposed to watch.
I have not found a verified spectating window before the Chapter 5 Arena systems come online.
From here on, though, I want the calendar to be part of my Free Time routine.
Nintendo confirms that on days when other teams have matches, I can spectate their battles from the Arena. A published Nintendo screenshot also shows a specific Forgotten Aetior qualifier on 3/21.
I have not personally reached and verified that exact event in my save yet, so I am keeping the date provisional.
The Chapter 5 rule I want to remember
The game has stopped being stingy with systems before it has stopped being stingy with money.
That means the answer is not to buy everything.
It is to use the new systems selectively:
Quests pay me. Pearls stay. Trading replaces some spending. Mentoring gets checked. The Arena calendar gets checked. Farming is almost here.
That should get me through the current squeeze without selling something I am going to need two hours later.

Nintendo confirms that Arena training is available weekly between matches and that other battles can be spectated on match days to study opponents.
A Nintendo-sourced screenshot shows a Spectate option for Qualifier: Forgotten Aetior on 3/21/1449. I have not personally reached that date, so the exact event/date remains provisional until I see it in my save.
