The Wooden Sword Sent Me Down a Class-System Rabbit Hole
I equipped the free sword because it was there, then spent an hour finding out that equipment and class direction are two different conversations.

Cai got a Wooden Sword today, and I equipped it in about a second and a half. That is what you do when a game hands you a weapon in the first hour. It is free, it is better than nothing, it goes in the slot.
Then I opened the class screen to see what he could become, and the sword quietly stopped making sense.
An hour disappeared into that screen, which is roughly fifty-five minutes more than the decision was worth and exactly the right amount of time for the lesson underneath it.
The part I want to remember is not the answer. It is the shape of the mistake. I was reading the equipment screen like a normal RPG instead of reading the class system like Fire Emblem, and once I flipped that round, six other questions answered themselves — including why I had been feeling faintly guilty about not training every weapon the game had handed me.
Availability is not priority. That sentence is going on a card somewhere.
